When I was at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust my amazing internal comms manager created a weekly email newsletter to connect the 120 people working across the UK. She included an “office gossip” section at the end, sharing (with permission) funny things seen or heard in the office that week.

Soon we got complaints from several people in the office telling us that the gossip section alienated people who worked from home because they felt left out.

So we asked them. The people working at home loved the gossip section because it made them feel included.

Turns out the people making the complaints hadn’t asked the people working at home their views, they just based it on their own opinion.
