Today I did a brave, possibly ill-advised, potentially hilariously embarrassing thing. I published an article on Linkedin announcing that I want to be the next CEO of the Lord’s Taverners.

They’re a charity that breaks down barriers and empowers disadvantaged and disabled young people to fulfil their potential and build life skills. I’ve been there: as a kid with cystic fibrosis no one really knew how to make things accessible for me. I could either “do sport” or I couldn’t; there was no middle ground.

That situation may now have changed for people with CF, but not for many young people with different disabilities and disadvantages. I’m deeply passionate about the cause and I know it’s a job I can do.

I also know that the job market is competitive right now and, more than that, jobs like this will always attract a high calibre of applicants. So I need to do something different, something to make myself stand out from the crowd.

On my other site, I’ve written about doing things even when they scare you and this is no different.

It’s easy to sit and be comfortable, but nothing great ever came from “easy” or “safe”. This will be an adventure in discomfort and I’m excited about the ride.
